Hector Rail and Siemens have signed a contract for delivery of two new electric freight locomotives. The locomotives are very powerful with an installed power of 6400 kW. As a consequence of this the new locomotives can haul heavier trains than today’s present locomotives. When the locomotives brake the brake energy will be converted to electricity which can regenerate to the electric net. By this the already energy efficient railway can become even more energy efficient.
The locomotives will be delivered in Q1 2006. This will be the first delivery of new electric locomotives to Sweden (except the iron ore line), since the last Swedish standard locomotive of the class Rc was delivered in 1988.
