Hector Rail has signed an agreement with Bombardier Transportation to purchase ten of its TRAXX F140AC locomotives, to be delivered in 2008 and 2009. The agreement includes options for Hector Rail to purchase up to ten additional locomotives. The locomotives will be furnished with signalling systems for service in Sweden, Denmark and Germany. The equipment enables a freight train to leave a station in Sweden and operate directly to a destination in Germany by means of bridges over Öresund and Store Bælt. The result will be lower costs, faster service and improved punctuality for rail transport between Sweden and the continent.
Like all contemporary electric locomotives, the TRAXX F140 AC has electric brakes that generate power that can be re-fed into the railway’s system and used by its other vehicles. Using this type of locomotive is the most environmentally friendly approach to providing land-based transport.
