Hector Rail will during the coming ten years operate rail transport of timber in Mid Sweden for the Swedish forest products company SCA. The transport service will be handled in the form of system trains. The trains will transport timber from the SCA terminals in Mid Sweden (Östersund area) and will supply SCA’s industries in the Sundsvall area with wood raw material. Approximately 15 drivers will be employed in Ånge and Långsele. The transports will start in January 2007.
Hector Rail will commission seven electric locos, one diesel loco and 94 four axle wagons. For the timber transports the locomotives will be equipped with radio remote control.
Timber will be loaded at the terminals in Hoting, Krokom, Bensjöbacken and Östavall. In total 1.8 million tons of timber per annum will be transported to the Töva terminal (for final transport on truck to the paper mill Ortviken), the pulp mill in Östrand, Iggesund papermill and Domsjö industries (close to Örnsköldsvik). Both SCA and Hector Rail believe that the system can be further developed during the contract period.
